The Messy Work of Serving Others

Ask any decent parent in America and they will tell you that sometimes it is downright exhausting to serve their kids constantly. At times, we as parents are all too quick to sacrifice whatever energy we have left for self-care in order to serve our kids or spouse. It gets tiring sometimes. The same is true for serving others in ministry.

Kendra and I just finished our first leg of travel. It included 32 hours, 4 flights, 3 continents, and 1 airport Shower to get it done. We don’t look pretty right now and we are pretty tired. However, the same thing that keeps weary parents going motivates us, love. Yep, love even conquers tiredness. However, we are going to lay our heads down and rest physically because we need to. We also acknowledge the need to rest spiritually in the presence of God. We will spend time in prayer and reading our Bible to recharge tomorrow morning and hit the ground running. Tomorrow we should arrive in Kisii to meet our brothers and sisters there and to serve them in any way possible.

What is making you tired today? How do you need to better rest?

Videographic evidence of our weariness.
