I love words whose plural forms get weird. A word like focus. Seems simple enough to make it plural, just add your traditional “-es” to the end. Nope. This word lets you drop two letter and pick up and “i”. Foci. If you think about it for a minute, the plural form of this word is not only funky, it’s ironic. To have multiple foci, to have multiple things that are dominating your attention. To have multiple things that are the center of your view, your universe. It sounds impossible. However, if you take a minute to think about your life we all live a life of foci. We can’t just have one focus. So stop trying! Stop trying to have laser focus. Stop trying to have just one thing.
Instead, take the time to realize which one of your foci should be dominating the day, week, month, hour, minute. For many of us we have jobs, kids, houses, paperwork, dreams, plans, community involvement, volunteering that all at some point need our attention and need to be the center of our attention. Acknowledge that and make it a point to stay focused on whatever one of the foci you need to at the time. Make a list if you have to, it is that time of year you know…
