Going As You Are Called

Travel and Missions seem to go together. As we prepare for and take mission trips we often get lots of questions. Many times these questions are about who? and what? Who are you going with? Who are you going to work with? What are you going to do? What’s it going to be like?

The Who questions are generally easier to answer. They usually fall in line with our why. Why are we going? Because of who they are. We often go simply because there is an answer to the who question.

Things often get more difficult when we get to the what questions. We do short term missions in the context of a long term relationship. We feel led by God to serve the missionaries in whatever way he calls us to do that. Sometimes that means we don’t have very many details except who, when, and where. Much like when Abraham first received the call from God to leave his homeland. In Genesis 12:1 God tells Abraham “…Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” God doesn’t even give Abraham the when or the final where. He just tells him to Go. Then God follows it up with a promise and a pretty spectacular one at that. You can read it for yourself in the rest of Genesis 12.

As we depart Amsterdam for Africa we are approaching a great deal of unknowns. We are not real sure what the village will be like or what our days there will consist of. However, we know that God has called us to go and so here we go.

Where is God calling you to go? Are you waiting for more details or is the call itself enough to go?
